SUMMARY
After an indifferent first-half, Altrincham went behind after 41 minutes when Kirkwood was pushed over in a goalmouth melee. From the resulting penalty, Knapper beat Coburn easily. Altrincham stepped up a gear in the second period and dominated play until they equalised after 79 minutes through substitute, Otis Thomas following an impressive build-up. Ilkeston then belatedly came back into the match but the home side were lucky to be able to fight another day when Landon's superb strike from 20 yards bounced down off the crossbar in the 90th minute.

TEAM NEWS
Altrincham were without the suspended Glendenning and the injured Furlong, whilst Danny Murphy was only fit enough to figure as a substitute. The recovering Eddie Turkington joined Murphy, Crowe and Power on the bench. With five subs permitted in the Trophy, Youth Team player Otis Thomas, fresh from his trial at Bristol City, was also on the bench. For Ilkeston, former Moss Lane favourite Chris Timons was the captain, whilst Chris Gordons replaced the previously ever-present Andy Love in goal. Acting manager John Helliwell was in Ilkeston's starting line-up but the recent arrival of John McGovern has stymied the managerial ambitions which Helliwell had voiced in the match programme.

Pity the poor photographer trying to capture the magic moments of Alty scoring goals. In the first half there was very little action in front of the Ilkeston goal and it was not possible to take what action there was because of dazzling sun (what no rain) straight into the lens. In the second half plenty of action but with daylight saving the lights come on and it get light is not conducive to photography. Excuses - excuses. At least I got one half time picture I was pleased with.
	The Clock Tower Ilkeston Town. An attractive stand, unusual as it is in the corner of the ground rather than the centre. A very practical and sensible reason for this. There were only funds to build a stand with the frontage of this one , to put it in the centre would have meant demolishing perfectly good seating. so build it in the corner and extend when the good times come. Good thinking!

	Half time. Manager Mark Ward has just had a word with the referee. I could not hear what he said but I bet it went along these lines. "Excuse me Ms Rayner, I would be grateful if you could tell me your reasons for giving Ilkeston the penalty?"

	On the 89 minute Richard Landon sent in a terrific shot which completely beat the keeper who turned to watch the ball hit the cross bar and rebound into the field of play - I also missed the ball
