CAROLE NASH INSURANCE CONSULTANTS

Carole Nash Insurance Consultants (CNIC) was founded, on a dining room table in the Manchester suburb of Timperley in 1985.

Its eponymous founder created the consultancy - specialising in vintage motorcycle insurance - having been made redundant when her previous employer, Sentry Insurance, closed its Manchester office

Sinking her redundancy into professional indemnity insurance, a telephone and adding machine, Carole set off on a business trail which, within a decade, would see her becoming the UK's motorbike intermediary with  motorcycle market with nearly 85,000 policyholders and a turnover of over £9m.

Carole Nash with her 1925 Triumph Model P   Growth has been swift with the dining room giving way to a refurbished garage in less than 12 months and, two year's later, to bona-fide offices in Timperley town centre.

Further expansion saw a move in February '96 to the consultancy's current home in Altrincham, Cheshire where its 120 strong workforce is based.

The firm has recently doubled its office space to cope with continued and forecast expansion. It also opened a Dublin office on January 4 1999 to support its fast growing Emerald policy, which it launched in January 1998 for Irish bikers.

Following the move to Altrincham Carole strengthened the boardroom team, shrewdly recruiting her accountant Damian Keeling as managing director, luring him from the Manchester office of top ten accountancy firm, Horwath Clark Whitehill where he was managing partner

She herself became executive chairman a role which will allow her to devote more time to fostering relationships with policy holders - whilst her son Malcolm became technical director, reward for an impressive eight year track record of identification arid exploitation of new product area.

Her private collection. of classics boasts a Morgan, three wheeler, a 1925 Triumph and, her favorite, the Old Lady - an original 1914 B-SA Combination.

Sweeping aside stereotypical assumptions of male dominance among, bikers, Carole has been appointed the first female assistant general secretary of the Federation Internationale Des Vehicules Anciens (FIVA) and was the first woman to take the helm, as president, of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club

Known by the biking community as "the custodian or the toy cupboard" Carole is a familiar and popular figure on the event circuit. As well as all major UK bike shows, her work with FIVA takes her across Europe and -she. has taken part in a number of rallies, including the London to Brighton Pioneer Run.

At the invitation of the Latvian authorities she also donned period costume to drive the Morgan in a special procession to mark the 1988 opening of tile first transport museum in the old Soviet Union.

CNIC has revolutionized vintage and modified motorcycle- insurance by championing., unlimited mileage policies - others have followed tier lead but the consultancy remains well ahead of the pack.

Carole herself puts success down to being sincere- and able to communicate at all levels.  "The scheme cuts across all classes We have baronets and road sweepers," she explains adding that a number of soap stars and other celebrities are among her satisfied clients,

The personable boss is happy to admit that ten years ago she was more at home in the aisles of Sainsbury's than the boardrooms of insurance big-wigs, But today, with business booming, she says a return to housewifery is mast definitely not on the cards. "My work is my life. I've forgotten how to plug in a Hoover.," she laughs.
