The UniBond League XI beat the FA XI in the "England National Game XI International Trials" tonight in an entertaining match in front of 662 fans at Moss Lane. Captained by Mark Sertori and including three other Alty players (Steve Hawes, Rod Thornley and Stuart Coburn), the UniBond side won 4-3. Their goals came from Thornley (1 min), Hyde's Simon Yeo (58 mins and a pen. after 89 mins) and Worksop's Gary Townsend (82 mins). The FA goals were scored by Nuneaton's Warren Peyton (a pen. after 5 mins), Doncaster's Simon Marples (18 mins) and Stalybridge's Steve Pickford (63 mins). Stuart Elliott went off just before the FA's third goal, reducing his side to ten men for the last 27 minutes. Alty's Steve Hawes also picked up a knock, which needed the application of an ice-pack to his leg after he had been substituted
